Refugees and a new hope and meaning for humanity

By Dr. Lina Ahmed Dabba, Sudan 🇸🇩

Refugees are not numbers or statistics; they are human beings who left everything behind, fearing for their lives and dignity. Every day they face unimaginable hardships, and at every turn, they need someone to lend a helping hand. Supporting them in host countries is not a luxury, but a humanitarian duty—a responsibility to the human spirit.

When we give refugees safety, we give them a chance to live, to smile, to learn, and to work. When we help them integrate, we protect our communities from strain and build a more cohesive society. Refugees possess skills and experiences that can enrich our economy and culture if we give them the opportunity.

Yes, there are challenges… public services are strained by numbers, there are fears of change, but these are not greater than humanity's capacity to give. Inclusion programs, education, vocational training, and community outreach can make a huge difference.

Supporting refugees means telling them, “You are not alone, and my wealth is not lost.” This is not just a duty; it is a humanitarian message—a message that says we still believe in compassion, justice, and the strength of the human heart.
